Top Seven Misconceptions About WordPress

Misconceptions About WordPress: Every aspiring blogger has heard about WordPress. Not many of them know the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org though. But that’s a different story.

WordPress powers more than 30 percent of the total websites. Despite its popularity, there are several misconceptions about WordPress.

In this article, I will talk about the top misconceptions about WordPress. Read on to find out.

Top Misconceptions About WordPress

So, let us look at the top misconceptions about WordPress:

WordPress Is A Blogging Platform

This, I believe, is the most popular misconception about WordPress. WordPress is not just a blogging platform. It is also a software, a Content Management System (CMS) through which you create and manage the content of your website. The open source software is available for download at WordPress.org. And WordPress.com is the blogging platform, which runs on the WordPress CMS.

WordPress Is Just For Blogging

Although WordPress, in its initial days, was intended for bloggers, over the years, it has evolved a lot and now, it is more than that. With WordPress, you can create any type of sites and not just blogs. Be it an e-commerce website, an educational site, or a site to serve any other purpose,
WordPress is effective for all.

WordPress Is Not For Ecommerce Websites

This is not at all true. You can create and manage wonderful e-commerce websites with WordPress. Not only there are many WordPress themes for e-commerce websites, there are also many free and paid WordPress plugins for e-commerce sites.

WordPress Is For Beginners

WordPress is easy. Especially with the huge number of plugins
available in its repository, enough documentation, and an active community, everything becomes extremely simple for a beginner or for someone with no technical knowledge.

At the same time, as a beginner, it won’t be as easy as starting a blog on, let’s say, Blogger. Also, with passing time, you will realize that a little knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other technical stuff will help you a lot and save you from having to depend on others even for the minutest of issues.

WordPress Is Not For Websites That Drive A Large Traffic

Many large websites, traffic-wise large to be precise, are powered by WordPress. Whoever says that WordPress sites cannot sustain large traffic probably do not have the necessary skills to manage a site that drives large traffic. Yes, there are technical aspects to it, which if not taken care can cause problems. But WordPress has nothing to do with that. It is fully capable of sustaining high traffic. A site that I work for generates around 6 million monthly visitors and it is powered by WordPress.

If you do not have the necessary technical knowledge, either hire a dedicated person/team for it or go for a managed hosting service.

There Is No Support For WordPress

As mentioned above, more than 30 percent of websites are powered by WordPress. This has, over the years, created a very active community of WordPress users. There are many forums where users are highly active and respond to queries very promptly. Also, there is sufficient documentation.

With WordPress, You Don’t Need Knowledge Of SEO

Just because there are plugins for everything, including SEO, it doesn’t mean SEO will be automatically taken care of by the plugins. The SEO plugins will just make things easier for you. As for the knowledge of SEO practices and the likes, it is a must irrespective of whether or not there is a plugin.

So, these are the top seven misconceptions about WordPress. There are many more. I will add more in the list.
